Role type: Independent contractor, remote work

Time commitment: Variable with ad hoc testing projects requiring ~20-30 hours per week, interspersed with periods of down time

Remuneration: £30 per hour, paid monthly

We’re inviting existing Read Your Body app users within our community who have a keen eye & passion for detail to apply to join us in this internal app tester role!

What this role entails

You’ll be briefed by our community manager on upcoming new app features / products like the partner app with access to the designs, implementation notes and other relevant details to acquaint yourself with exactly how each new app feature should look and work.

You’ll be asked to take the initiative to develop an internal testing plan to cover all core functionality and edge cases, with documented test cases or checklists as appropriate.

Once your internal testing plan is approved by our community manager, you’ll then be asked to carry out the tests, record the results and report back any unexpected behaviour for our developers to fix. Larger features / entire products like the partner app will be broken into smaller chunks for internal testing.

You’ll need to use your own Android or iOS device for testing.

(You can use your everyday device if you like, although you’ll need to export a backup of your own charting data then clear the app for your work session then reimport your own charting data at the end of your work session.)

You’ll be encouraged to work independently and on your own schedule, with check-in points as relevant with our community manager and other members of the RYB team. While it would be most welcome, you don’t need to have formal / professional experience with software testing and quality assurance.

The most valuable attributes are an existing understanding of the app, the ability to confidently grasp implementation logic and turn this into comprehensive testing plans (we can provide examples of what these look like in practice), carry out tests with close attention to detail, and report back any unexpected behaviour clearly and precisely.

This is an exciting opportunity to support behind-the-scenes with our development work. Note that internal testing can be quite repetitive / dense, requiring perseverance and a real passion for detail (see examples of upcoming internal testing below).

If this is indeed your passion then it can be a deeply rewarding and satisfying role, especially when you see a new app feature roll out to our community with no major glitches and lots of lovely feedback!

As a team we work in a way that honours our menstrual cycles / bodies, with the invitation to take time for rest as needed.

You’ll be most welcome to join us in working flexibly in this way as an independent contractor.

Examples of upcoming testing

  • Checking data display for the partner appe.g. cycle phase and fertile window status in home screen, visual cycle trends in stats screen, only data shared by the charter visible to partner
  • Checking account flows & connection states for the partner appe.g. partner registers for account, partner verifies email address, charter invites partner to connect, charter cancels invite, partner invites charter to connect, charter declines invite from partner, charter accepts invite from partner, charter configures data sharing settings, charter removes active connection, partner removes active connection, charter blocks connection, etc etc
